IMA CGP (College of General Practitioners)
Considering that the education of a
doctor is a continues process, and to achieve this object the
Indian Medical Association decided in the year 1963 to start a
College of General Practitioners. This College covers the need of at
least 85% of the members of the profession in the country.
So far, the CME needs of the
profession were being met by lectures in the branches of the
Association and by other academic programmes by Refresher /
Orientation Courses. Though some success was achieved by the then
methods; the procedure needs to be systematized for maximum benefit
to ensure.
For the reason, I.M.A COLLEGE OF
GENERAL PRACTITIONERS has established its Faculties / Sub-Faculties
all over the country, in each State to carry out the teaching /
training programmes as laid down by the College.
The I.M.A COLLEGE OF GENERAL
PRACTITIONERS has set up a uniform pattern of refresher activity all
over the country and is deriving full cooperation from the medical
colleges and other postgraduate institutions. Assistance is also
available sometimes from the Union and State Governments on
individual programme basis.
The motto of the IMACGP is to make
concerted efforts to promote CME activities, allot SELF STUDY CREDIT
HOURS, conduct its fellowship Examination (FCGP) and conduct
Residency / Vocational Training Programmes in general practice. It
has identified National Professors and Teaching Faculties at State
level in addition to publication of specific learning material
including publishing regularly JOURNAL FAMILY MEDICINE INDIA. The
entire teaching / services programmes and based on experience,
expertise and improve quality of general practice. Teaching by
postal tuition i.e. Correspondence Educational Course is proving
very successful particularly for members in distant places. The
educational and academic activities conducted by the college have
been approved officially by the Medical Council of India in the
field of CME for General Practitioners.
